About this mod

What it does

Simple Armor Passive Picker adds two boxes of the same width, side by side, to your player card on the pre-mission loadout screen.

Passive box (right): shows the passive of the armor you are wearing. Click it and a grid opens with every passive you own. Pick one and it goes on the armor you are wearing.

Rating box (left): shows the armor's rating, for example ARMOR RATING 79. Click it and pick 50, 64, 70, 79, 100, 129, 150 or ORIGINAL. Those are every rating the game's own armors have, the odd ones included. The rating sets speed and stamina too, exactly as on a stock armor with that rating. ORIGINAL gives the armor its own stats back.

The armor's look never changes. Wear the armor you like with the stats you want.

Some armors are built from fewer pieces, so their steps are coarser. The grid shows the nearest number that armor can really make (70 comes out as 71 on most armors). Passive bonuses such as Extra Padding still add on top in the Armory, as usual.

Only passives from armor you already own are offered.

A pick is for the armor you are wearing. Put on a different armor and the one you left goes back to its own passive and rating. Make your change just before you dive. When the game closes, every armor is put back too.

Want it to stick? Press F6 on the loadout screen. That armor keeps the picked passive and rating through armor changes and every time you start the game, until you press F6 again with its own passive and rating back on.

The boxes work on both the loadout page and the Equipment page of the card.

Mouse, or W/A/S/D and Space once a grid is open.

The boxes and the grids can be dragged anywhere. Their spots are saved.

Made with AI

The code for this mod was written by an AI and tested in the game by a human.

What it changes, plainly

This mod changes game memory while the game runs. A passive pick writes two numbers: the passive in the armor's record, and the passive in the game's record of what you are wearing. A rating pick copies the armor's piece list once, with the pieces' light, medium and heavy weights set to make that rating the same way the game's own odd-rated armors are built, and points the armor's record at the copy. The game's own data is never edited. Every write is checked after writing. It also calls one of the game's own functions so the menu underneath does not hear your key presses while a grid is open (this can be turned off).

It unlocks no armor, and only passives from armor you own are offered.

It is a gameplay change in an online game. Use it knowing that, and at your own risk.

Requirements

Bingus Shared Loader v15 or newer (API 1). Put the loader last in your load order, as its page says.

Made for game build 25480438. After a game update the mod checks the game's code before doing anything. If the code has changed it switches itself off and says why in its log, and you wait for an update.

Install

  1. Close the game.
  2. Add the zip to your mod manager along with Bingus Shared Loader.
  3. Enable both and deploy.
  4. Start the game, open a mission's loadout screen and look for the two boxes on your player card.

Settings

Settings live in SimpleArmorPassivePicker.cfg, in the CowboyBingus Logs folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\CowboyBingus\Helldivers2\Logs). The file is written on first run with every setting explained. It is re-read while the card is on screen, so you can tune without restarting.

set_key (default 117, F6): The hard-set key, as a Windows key number. 0 turns it off.
drag (default 1): 1 lets you drag the boxes and the grids. 0 locks them.
block_keys (default 1): 1 keeps W/A/S/D and Space from the game's menu while a grid is open.
grid_cols (default 2): Columns in the passive grid, 1 to 4.
box_alpha, grid_alpha (default 195, 170): How solid the black background of the boxes and the grids is. 0 is see-through, 255 is solid.
hold_diverkit (default 1): Only matters if you also run DiverKit. See below.
box_, eq_box_, grid_, cell_: Position and size of the passive box and the grids.
class_w, class_dx, class_dy, class_cell_w (default 201, -207, 0, 210): Size of the rating box, where it sits from the passive box, and the rating grid's width.

Using it with DiverKit

DiverKit's loadout panel can sit under this mod's boxes, and DiverKit reads the mouse on its own. So while your mouse is on a box or a grid is open, DiverKit is paused for those frames and cannot hear the click (hold_diverkit = 1, the default). Its panel stays drawn. If you would rather this mod left DiverKit alone, set hold_diverkit = 0 and drag the boxes and the grids clear of DiverKit's panel.

Files it writes

All in the CowboyBingus Logs folder:

SimpleArmorPassivePicker.log and SimpleArmorPassivePicker.previous.log: what the mod did this session and last session.
SimpleArmorPassivePicker.cfg: settings.
SimpleArmorPassivePicker.saved: your hard-set passives and ratings.

Nothing leaves your computer. No network access.

Known limits

Brewed on Linux. Written and tested by one player on Linux with Proton. Windows is the game's home turf, so it should run there, but nobody has tried it yet. If you are the first, tell me how it went.
New armors added by a game update will not be recognised until the mod's armor list is updated.
Multiplayer: used in missions with other players and it just worked, with nothing odd seen. What teammates see on their own screens has not been checked.
Armor rating in multiplayer: not tested yet. What teammates see and get has not been checked.

Uninstall

Close the game, disable or remove the mod, deploy. Delete the three SimpleArmorPassivePicker.* files if you want no trace. Armors go back to their own passives and ratings the moment the mod is gone.

Credits and thanks

CowboyBingus for Bingus Shared Loader, which this mod runs on.

Thank you to RatInPlat, author of HD2 Transmog Foundation, and to tanau4, author of DiverKit. I learned where the game keeps armor records, ownership and the loadout screen by reading how their mods do it. That saved me digging it all out of the game's code myself: a different route to the same place. Simple Armor Passive Picker contains none of their code and uses its own signatures to find things in the game, and it does not need either mod installed. Go and look at their work.

What's new in 1.4.0

***Moved over from Nexus*** ***Untested after Modpocolypse. *** - Added binding for keyboard and controler - Easier to read: the rating grid is centered and larger, the pick is a solid gold bar, and the bar your cursor is on gets a gold frame. - Fix: the rating box now works on every armor. - Controller: support added. - Log: the mod's time per second goes in its log once a minute. - Note: Armors with extra padding read with the extra padding added to armor rating. Armor with 100 rating and extra padding will read 125 or 150 depending on how much padding is padded in the extra padding.
